The Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW)

CFUW is a non-partisan, self-funded, volunteer-led organization with over 6,700 members and 90 clubs across Canada. Founded in 1919, CFUW advocates for the equality of women and girls, promotes public education, and supports human rights, social justice, and peace.

Lifelong Learning

Through speaker events, book clubs, lectures, and study groups, CFUW members stay informed and inspired throughout their lives. Clubs offer rich programming that nurtures curiosity and personal growth.

Scholarships & Awards

Each year, CFUW clubs award over $1 million in scholarships and bursaries to support women and girls pursuing post-secondary education — helping create opportunity for the next generation of leaders.

Friendship & Community

CFUW offers more than programming — it offers connection. Across generations, backgrounds, and interests, members form lasting friendships and a shared sense of purpose.

Advocacy & Action

From local initiatives to national campaigns, CFUW members advocate for gender equality, education, justice, and human rights. Clubs engage with elected officials, submit policy resolutions, and support critical causes.

Global Impact

CFUW is the largest affiliate of Graduate Women International and holds consultative status with the United Nations. Members contribute to global dialogue on women’s rights and education through international partnerships and events.

A Proud History, A Bright Future

Founded in 1919, CFUW was born from women’s fight for access to higher education. Today, it continues to evolve — removing barriers, welcoming all women, and working toward a more just and equitable world.
